至于“旧八大奇迹”中的秦始皇兵马俑（Qin terra-cotta warriors and horses figurines），那是国人自己加上去的。1978年9月，法国前总理希拉克参观后感慨地说：“世界上有七大奇迹，秦兵马俑的发现可以说是八大奇迹了。不看金字塔，不算真正到过埃及；不看秦俑，不算真正到过中国。”于是，“世界第八大奇迹”的说法不胫而走。
