Shanghai is a paradise for food lovers. As a local, I am proud to introduce some of the best food in Shanghai to you.
Firstly, you cannot miss the famous Shanghai-style soup dumplings, also known as xiaolongbao. The thin and delicate skin wraps the juicy and flavorful filling, which always leaves you wanting more. My favorite place to have xiaolongbao is at Jia Jia Tang Bao, a small and cozy restaurant located in Huangpu District.
Secondly, if you are a fan of spicy food, then Sichuan cuisine is a must-try. The spicy and numbing sensation of Sichuan peppercorns combined with the rich and bold flavors of chili oil creates a unique and addictive taste. My go-to place for Sichuan food is Chen Mapo Tofu, a restaurant that serves the best mapo tofu in town.
Last but not least, Shanghai is also famous for its street food. From the crispy and savory
scallion pancakes to the sweet and chewy glutinous rice balls, you can find a variety of delicious snacks on the streets of Shanghai. My personal favorite is the jianbing, a Chinese-style crepe filled with egg, crispy wonton skin, and various sauces.
