英语颜的特殊含义
英语中有许多形容词都有各自的特殊的含义，有时不能按字面去理解
green （绿）

green fingers 有园艺技能
例：I know that his father was green fingers.我知道他爸爸很有园艺技能。
（1）英语中表示嫉妒用be green with envy，和汉语中的“嫉妒得眼晴发红”恰恰相反，这大概是由于人种不同。眼珠颜有别的缘故吧。
（2）Green revolution汉语意思是“绿革命”，指以推广高产小麦为开端的农业革命。

white （白）

例：That would be a white elephant to me. 那东西对我来说又贵又没用。

3.与白有关的社会内涵
（1）white elephant指的是“贵而无用之物，因为white elephant被尊为神，谁要得到了这么个礼物，注定是要被害惨的。试想谁有能力来供奉一尊活神呢？我国曾有某一品牌为”白象“的产品，投放国际市场后，始终打不开销路，究其原因，恰是white elephant译名作怪。
（2）中国人有句话叫“美丽的谎言”。当朋友想请你吃饭，而你又不想让他破费，便骗他说你已经吃过了。美国人把这种不台恶意，有时带有善意的谎言称为white lie.
（3）美国有一首非常流行的歌《White Christmas》“白圣诞节”。为什么Christmas是白的呢？这是指当时大雪纷飞或是雪花满地。其实，white含有“多雪的” （snowy ）意思。比如a white winter就是指大雪纷飞的冬日。这和中国的“瑞雪兆丰年”的意思相似。
black （黑）

3.与黑有关的社喜内涵
（1）一些带有迷信观念的外国人最忌“黑星期五。Black Friday一般指星期五又逢l3号的耶一天，迷信者会尽量减少外出以免灾祸临头black art是不可思议的妖术，在中古时代的欧洲，如被怀疑具有black art的人是要被判处死刑的。
（2）black sheep字面上的意思是“黑羊”，实际是指集体中的败类、败家子。它源于英国古代的迷信传说过去英国人认为黑羊毛的羊羔是魔鬼的化身，因此牧羊人总觉得一只黑羊挤在一白羊中很不吉利。黑的羊毛也值不了多少钱，被当成无用的东西。这样black sheep
就转义为“无用之人，败家子”。相当于汉语的“害之马”。
（3）历史上还有两个Black Thursday，一是指1851年2月6日的星期四，当时澳大利亚发生了一场特大森林火灾，火到之处，一片焦黑；一是指1943年10月14日，也是个星期四美德空军在德国史温盗佛镇上空发生激战，战火激烈，两败俱伤，史称该日为Black Thursday.

欧洲中世纪皮肤白皙（fair)被认为高贵，是贵族血统的标志，皮肤白的话，蓝的静脉就显出来了，所以有此说。
blue Monday：忧郁的星期一(尤指与欢乐的周末对比)
