My Plant Pals and Their Record Cards
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 8 years old. I love plants so much! They are like my little green friends. I have a whole garden of plant pals at home that I take care of. Last week, my teacher Miss Sarah taught us about making record cards for plants. That means writing down important information about each plant to help us learn about them better. I thought it sounded like such a fun idea, so I decided to make record cards for all my beloved plant buddies!
First up was my favorite - Rosie the Rose Bush. Rosie has the most beautiful red roses that bloom in the springtime. Their petals are so soft and velvety. On Rosie's record card, I drew a big picture of her with lots of colorful rose blooms. I wrote down that she is a rose bus
h and roses are her flowers. I included facts like she needs lots of sunshine and water to grow. Roses have thick green stems with sharp thorns, so I reminded myself to be careful when taking care of Rosie.
Next was Timothy the Tomato Plant. Timothy grows the yummiest cherry tomatoes ever! I love snacking on them straight from the vine when they're ripe and juicy red. For Timothy's card, I drew him with his green vines sprouting red tomatoes. He is a vegetable plant that needs warm temperatures and at least six hours of sunlight per day. Once his tomatoes are big and red, that means they are ready to pick and eat!
Then there was Lily the Lavender. Lily has such a calming, wonderful smell. Whenever I get close to her purple flower spikes, the soothing lavender scent makes me feel so relaxed. On Lily's card, I colored her in bright purple and wrote about how she is an herb plant. Her fragrant flowers can be used for all kinds of things like soap, lotions, lemonade and even dried into lavender sachets. Lily likes dry, warm climates with not too much water.
One of my bigger plant pals is Oliver the Oak Tree. Oliver is a massive tree with a thick b

I noted that oak trees can live for hundreds of years and grow high into the sky. Their leaves change colors in the fall from green to pretty reds, oranges and yellows before falling off for winter. Oliver is awesome for climbing and his acorns are fun to collect!
My last record card was for Emerald the English Ivy. Emerald is a sneaky little vine that loves to climb all over everywhere! She has crept along the garden fence, up the side of the house, and even across the driveway. I drew her ivy vines snaking every which way on her record. Emerald doesn't need much sunlight or water, which is why she can grow just about anywhere. Her leaves are a shiny, rich green color and she has small white flower clusters in summer. I have to keep an eye on Emerald so she doesn't take over too much!
Making record cards for my plant pals was a blast! It helped me get to know each one even better. I learned their names, what type of plants they are, when they bloom, how much sun and water they need, and other cool facts about them. My cards are filled with co
