When it comes to food in Shanghai, there are so many delicious options to choose from. As a local, I can confidently say that the city has some of the best cuisine in China. Here are a few of my favorite dishes and restaurants:
1. Xiaolongbao These steamed dumplings are a must-try when in Shanghai. They are filled with pork and a savory broth that bursts in your mouth with each bite. My favorite place to get them is at Din Tai Fung, a popular chain restaurant that originated in Taiwan.
2. Shengjianbao Another type of dumpling that Shanghai is famous for, these pan-fried buns are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I love getting them at Yang's Fry-Dumpling, a local chain that has been around for over 60 years.
3. Hairy crab A seasonal delicacy that is only available in the fall, hairy crabs are a must-try for seafood lovers. They are usually steamed and served with ginger and vinegar. My go-to pl
ace for hairy crab is at Xia Fei Society, a high-end restaurant that specializes in Shanghai cuisine.
4. Braised pork belly This dish is a staple in Shanghainese cuisine and is often served during family gatherings and festivals. The pork belly is slow-cooked in soy sauce and other aromatics until it is tender and flavorful. My favorite place to get it is at Old Jesse, a traditional restaurant that has been around for over 20 years.
