To register a trademark in mainland China, the first step is to conduct a comprehensive trademark search to ensure that there are no conflicting trademarks already registered. After the search, the next step is to submit an application to the trademark office in China. The application should include all relevant information such as the trademark itself, the goods or services the trademark will be used for, and the applicant's details. Once the application is submitted, it will undergo examination to ensure it meets all the necessary requirements. If the application is approved, it will be published in the official trademark gazette for a period of three months, during which time any party can file an opposition. If no opposition is filed or if any opposition is successfully overcome, the trademark will be registered and a registration certificate will be issued. The whole process typically takes around 12 to 18 months to complete.
