Teaching procedures: Ⅰ. Warm-up Ask the Ss to give a free talk. Ⅱ. Teaching procedure Part A a. Remind ss of the newspaper article in the reading section about a brave young person. Ensure that ss are interested in the topic before dealing with the technical aspects of writing a letter b. Elict ideas from ss about people who deserve a recommendation. c. Help ss brainstorm as many ideas as possible for choosing a person they wish to write about. Write the suggestions on the board. 5. Ask ss about the name of the person, what he/she did and when he/she did it. Focus on compiling ideas for the main body of the letter at this stage. The type of person dose not need to be restricted to someone who has been in the newspaper. Include ‘people you admire,’ ‘people who influenced you,’ ‘the most important person in your life’, etc. 6. Ask ss to explain why they choose the person.(You could set this preparation as a homework task.) 7. Tell ss that they should think about the key aspects of the content of the letter. Ask them to say as outline in PartB1 8 . Ask ss to look at Part A on Page85 again and to do the task as set out. Part B Do some exercises 1. The members recommend Daniel for this year’s (young)Award. 2. Daniel is very clever and he can learn things (quick). 3. You’re too careless. You should be (think). 4.
