Western Festival Celebration:an Act of Cultural Tolerance 长安汽车大全>斗鱼寅子
Festival is a ritual residue of a nation's culture, to honor a hero or an event in the history, to inherit customs of ancestors. People gather together to celeerate the current benovelence in the name of festivals. Globalization introduces foreign festivals into China which has recieved a warm welcome among Chinese young people. Some people consider the popularity as a destructive threat and express their concern on the dominance of Chinese culture or Chinese festivals. I believe the concern is unecessary because Chinese young people celeberate Western festivals out of curiosity without culture surrender and their profound attachment to Chinese culture is unspeakable.
Celeberation of Western Festivals among young people is a superficial and non-cultural act out of curiosity and refreshment. The purpose and specific form of celeberation demons
trate weak cultural motivation behind it. For example, a great amount of people utter "thank you" on Thanksgiving Day but how many of them know the origin of the festival and set up a family occasion to enjoy turkey? Their intention is quite simple, that they only need a festive excuse to extend their thanks to friends. Many a western festival rise from religion while few Chinese people convert their beliefs because of the celebration. Therefore, it is the festive atmosphere under those occasions that attracts young people's attention.
Honestly, profound attachment to Chinese fesitivals or culture enhanced by family and government is unspeakable and unconcious. Chinese festivals, as a part of Chinese culture, have been carved into the bones of young people. At Mid-Autumn Day, students find every possibility to go home for family reunion even they can feast themselves with various mooncakes at school. The whole nation is celebrating the sweetness of family love. Moreover, the government have set up holidays for a lot of Chinese festivals, turning spontaneous and individual celebration to habitual and massive one.
Therefore, celebration of western festivals among Chinese young people is a reflection of cultural tolerance against the background of globalization. Young people need such a cultural tolerance to move forwards along with Chinese cultural heritage to build up a peaceful world.
Statement: Responsibility for preserving the natural environment ultimately belongs to each individual person, not government.
Limited Individual Contribution to Environmental Protection
While nearly everyone would agree in principle that certain efforts to preserve the natural environment are in mankind's best interest, environmental issues always involve a tug of war among conflicting political and economic interests. A lot of people are convinced that individual efforts, to pick up litters, to turn off taps timely, to plant a tree, are the ultimate way to save the world. However, when litters become nuclear waste, when taps become nuclear leaks, how does an individual play magic? Therefore, environmental protection also need government involvement to take scattered and limited
individual contributions under guidence.
Inevitably, individuals (and private corporations owned by individuals) tend to act on behalf of their own short-term economic and political interest, not on behalf of the environment or the public at large. Individuals yield to self-indulgence in convenience, constantly forgetting to bring a handy shopping bag with them to supermarkets; private corporations seek unethical benefits by deliberate negligence, excusing themsleves of costs in environmental protection. For example, current technology makes possible the complete elimination of polluting eminssions from automobile. Nevertheless, neither automobile manufacturers nor consumers are willing to voluntarily make the short-term sacrifices. Only the government holds the regulatory and enforcement power to impose the necessary standards and to ensure that we achieve such goals.
黄思思被打 Aside from the problems of self-interest and enforcement, environmental issues inherently invovle public health and are far too pandemic in nature for individuals to solve on their own. Individual contribution often is paled out in front of egregious environmental
清水亚美violations that traverse state and sometimes national borders. When bird flu broke out in 2002, some individuals were numb with panic, some collapsed at fear and some even tried to make fortunes in the hovering danger by boosting the price of ginger and herb medicines in the market They have neither the power nor the resources to address these widespread hazards.
What, then, really puzzles the public about the environmental issue in general? it is the unwareness of their limited individual contribution but boundless fear of victimization. Without government involvement, the fear will make scattered individual contribution counterproductive.
