Part B  Role Play
情景介绍
广东2014高考    你是学生。
任务 1)询问Tom给家人购买礼物的想法;
        2)根据谈话内容回答另一同学的提问。
W: Hi, Tom. What are you doing? You seem to be lost in thought.
M: Well, yes. I’ll be going back home to visit my family for a couple of weeks.
W: That’s great. You’ll see your family soon.
M: Yes. I miss them very much. It’s been fourteen months since I came to China.
W: So, you must be thinking about how happy you’ll be to see them again.
M: Yes, that’s true. But I’m also thinking about what kinds of gifts I should bring back from China for everyone — my brother, my sister and of course, for my parents. It’s not easy to buy the right gift for each of them.
W: What do your parents like about China?
M: Well, they like music and operas. My mother told me that she was amazed at Beijing Opera. The singing and the dancing impressed her so much. She said she would like to visit Beijing just for the Opera! And my father likes whatever my mother likes.
W: Why don’t you buy some DVDs of Beijing Opera as gifts?
M: Hey, that’s a good idea! DVDs are easy to carry and they save space. My parents may watch Beijing Opera together at home!
W: What gifts would you buy for your brother and sister?
M: That’s tough. My sister is just twelve years old. She likes running. I think I can get her a flying kite. Yes, a lovely and fancy flying kite for the little girl. What about the eighteen-year-old boy? Hmm…he is learning Chinese now and he hopes to visit China soon. So maybe I can get him a T-shirt printed with some Chinese characters. Where is My Money?
Tom is very careless with money. He often forgets his money in his desk drawer at school or even finds that his pet dog has “eaten” his bank notes.
Accidents still happen. One day, Tom gave his mother an old pair of trousers to wash and went into the study to read. His mother would usually go through his pockets before washing his clothes, but for some reason she failed to do so this time. As he was reading, Tom suddenly remembered that there was a ten-pound note in one of the pockets of the trousers. He dropped his book and rushed into the bathroom. “Mom! You didn’t put my trousers into the washing-machine, did you?” he asked. But it was too late. His mother told him that his trousers had been in the machine for twenty minutes already! Tom stopped the machine and pulled out his trousers as quickly as possible. He went through
all the pockets looking for the note. At last he managed to find the ten-pound note that had turned into a wet piece of paper. To his great disappointment, the note had lost its color and might not be of any use.
